Jubilation to Imo for the payment of the salary of the “13th month”
The was wild jubilation at Imo’s Secretary of State yesterday as workers received their 13th month’s salary as promised by Governor Hope Uzodimma
Hundreds of workers greeted each other with hugs as the payment alert, which began on Wednesday, continued yesterday.
Although yesterday was supposed to be half a day’s work for officials, many of them stayed beyond that as they continued to discuss the positive developments.
Ms Olivia Ejirimka, who works with Owerri City Council, said it was the first time she had witnessed the 13th month payment since she started working many years ago.
“My brother, when the governor made that promise my attitude was like let’s wait and see, now that he has fulfilled it, help me thank him,” she said.
Likewise, Mr. Ezekel Chukwuka of the Ministry of Finance described the payment of the 13th month of salary as the biggest miracle of 2021.
According to him, “what the workers were praying for was for our December wages, not knowing that our governor of action had another surprise for us.”
While congratulating the governor on this gesture, Mr. Chukwuka pleaded for it to be a regular feature every year.
In the same vein, Ms. Oby Amadi Obi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, thanked Uzodimma for being a caring father to state workers.
She recalled that the governor had, upon taking office, undertaken the renovation of the State Secretariat and provided young workers with free transport.
